Each year I like to look up the Education Week analysis of school performance across the great 50 states of the US. Not so much to reflect that we are 44th in rankings while 49th in education spending but to remind me that it is important to judge ourselves by objective external measures and not internally derived metrics. When we can see ourselves as others see us we can truly become objective about whether we need to improve ourselves.
